MA Middle Eastern Studies

Programy studiów w SOAS mogą obejmować kursy językowe w ponad czterdziestu językach afrykańskich i azjatyckich. To właśnie znajomość języka afrykańskiego lub azjatyckiego przez studentów SOAS wyróżnia SOAS na tle innych uniwersytetów.

Students take 180 credits, 60 credits from a dissertation and 120 credits from taught modules.

Główny moduł

W ramach procesu aplikacyjnego wszyscy studenci muszą wybrać i zostać przyjęci do tak zwanego modułu „kierunkowego”, na temat którego napisali rozprawę doktorską zawierającą 10 000 słów. Główne moduły będą miały wymagania akademickie, a akceptacja będzie wymagała zatwierdzenia. Wszyscy studenci przyjęci do programu zostaną poproszeni o wskazanie swoich preferencji związanych z specjalizacją z listy modułów dostępnych jako specjalizacje w programie z odpowiednim wyprzedzeniem, aby mogli zostać przyjęci na specjalność przed zapisami na studia we wrześniu.

Generalnie organizatorem modułu kierunkowego będzie promotor pracy, chyba że wydział prowadzący moduł specjalizacyjny ma odrębne ustalenia dotyczące wyznaczania promotorów. Należy pamiętać, że większość modułów głównych kosztuje 30 punktów, ale niektóre mają 15 punktów. Ponadto niektóre moduły można traktować tylko jako przedmioty główne, a niektóre, w tym moduły językowe, tylko jako dodatkowe.

Taught modules

Oprócz głównego kursu, na który zostali przyjęci (30 lub 15 punktów), studenci muszą wziąć udział w obowiązkowym module „Remapping Area Studies” (15 punktów). Dodatkowo studenci wybierają 45 lub 60 punktów z listy niepełnoletnich (w tym 30 punktów z kursów językowych), a końcowe 30 punktów może wybrać albo z:

• listę mniejszych modułów (w tym innego modułu językowego), lub
• wszelkie zatwierdzone moduły opcji otwartych dostępne w innych wydziałach i szkołach SOAS .

Ponieważ w programach studiów regionalnych nacisk kładziony jest na studia interdyscyplinarne, studenci mają obowiązek wybrać moduły z co najmniej trzech różnych dyscyplin, a z jednej dyscypliny można uzyskać maksymalnie 60 punktów. Aby spełnić ten wymóg, moduły zwołane przez członków personelu SLCL mogą zostać sklasyfikowane w ramach różnych dyscyplin (kultura, historia, literatura lub polityka), jak wskazano na Liście opcji z przewodnikiem, aby zapewnić studentom maksymalny wybór

Some disciplines such as politics, economics or social anthropology require an appropriate qualification (such as all or part of a first degree) if any of their courses are to be taken as the major subject.
